CFAP418 antisense RNA 1 (CFAP418-AS1)

Target
CFAP418-AS1
Molecular classification
Other (long non-coding RNA/gene)

Overview

CFAP418 antisense RNA 1 is a long non-coding RNA gene, also known as C8orf37-AS1 or tospeak. As a lncRNA, it is not translated into protein but may play a role in the regulation of nearby genes, possibly including the protein-coding CFAP418 gene. CFAP418-AS1 is predicted (computationally) to be involved in translation, but its precise molecular function remains unclear. Associations with diseases such as Bardet-Biedl syndrome 21 and cone-rod dystrophy 16 are reported in gene annotation databases, but there is no direct evidence that CFAP418-AS1, rather than the adjacent or antisense gene CFAP418, is pathogenic. There are currently no known drugs targeting this lncRNA, nor is it a therapeutic target in conventional pharmacological terms.

Biological functions

Other (predicted to enable triplet codon-amino acid adaptor activity; predicted to be involved in translation; broader functions as a lncRNA remain unclear)
03

Disease associations

Other (associated in databases with Bardet-Biedl syndrome 21 and cone-rod dystrophy 16, though most disease relevance is for the CFAP418 protein-coding gene partner)
