Overview

CFLAR antisense RNA 1 (CFLAR-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene located in the region associated with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis 2 (ALS2CR10), but it does not encode a protein[1][3][10]. As a non-coding RNA, it is transcribed from DNA but not translated into protein, functioning instead at the RNA level to regulate gene expression through epigenetic, transcriptional, or post-transcriptional mechanisms[10]. CFLAR-AS1 has been found upregulated in the plasma of patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, implicating a potential role in cancer biology and suggesting possible utility as a biomarker for this malignancy[1]. It interacts with various molecular entities, including transcription factors and chromatin modification markers, and is implicated through its associations in diverse cellular regulatory networks, especially in cancer-related settings[1][5]. However, there are no known drugs or clinically validated mechanistic interventions specifically targeting CFLAR-AS1 to date. It is not a classical therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, but may serve as a future biomarker or research tool in oncology.
