Overview

Chaperonin containing TCP1 subunit 3 pseudogene 1 (CCT3P1) is a **pseudogene** corresponding to the canonical CCT3 gene, which encodes a subunit of the cytosolic chaperonin containing TCP1 (CCT) complex, also called TRiC. CCT3P1 is located in the human genome but contains disabling mutations such as frame-shifts or premature stop codons and does not produce a functional protein. As such, unlike the protein-coding CCT3 gene—important for actin and tubulin folding and implicated in various cellular processes and diseases—CCT3P1 does not have a known biological or pathological function and is not pursued as a therapeutic target[1][6].
