CHEK2 pseudogene 6 (CHEK2P6) is a member of a group of non-coding pseudogenes sharing sequence homology with the functional CHEK2 gene. Pseudogenes like CHEK2P6 do not encode functional proteins and do not possess known biological activity, therapeutic relevance, or disease association. The functional gene CHEK2 (Checkpoint kinase 2) codes for a key protein involved in cell cycle checkpoint control and is established as a moderate-penetrance cancer susceptibility gene; however, CHEK2P6 should not be confused with CHEK2[3]. Pseudogenes such as CHEK2P6 can be found in multiple locations across the genome and occasionally complicate genetic assays targeting the functional gene due to sequence similarity[3].
