Overview

Chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 23 (CCL23) is a small, secreted cytokine of the CC chemokine family predominantly expressed in lung, liver, bone marrow, and placenta, as well as by myeloid lineage cells. CCL23 acts as a chemoattractant mainly for resting T cells, monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells via the chemokine receptor CCR1, and plays a role in regulating inflammatory responses, suppressing hematopoietic progenitor cell proliferation, and promoting angiogenesis. CCL23 has been linked to a variety of pathological processes including chronic inflammation, tumor microenvironment modulation, and it serves as a biomarker for some cancers like acute myeloid leukemia.
