Chemokine-binding protein 2 is a human seven-transmembrane domain G protein-coupled receptor encoded by the *CCBP2* gene. It is also known as atypical chemokine receptor 2 (ACKR2) or D6. Unlike typical signaling chemokine receptors, ACKR2 primarily acts as a decoy/scavenger that binds a wide range of beta-type inflammatory chemokines without initiating conventional intracellular signaling cascades. This function helps regulate immune responses by removing excess inflammatory signals from tissues, thus modulating leukocyte recruitment during inflammation and potentially influencing tumor growth through effects on vascular biology. The gene is expressed broadly across tissues including hemopoietic cells and lymphatic endothelium, with overexpression observed in some vascular tumors.
Drugs targeting chemokine receptors generally act by: - Antagonizing or blocking ligand binding to prevent downstream signaling and cell migration.
