Chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) are engineered receptor proteins that endow T cells with the ability to recognize and attack specific antigens, typically found on cancer cells. CAR-T cell therapy involves collecting a patient's own T cells, genetically modifying them in the laboratory to express a CAR targeting a tumor-associated antigen, and then infusing these modified cells back into the patient to fight cancer.
