Chimeric Antigen Receptor Target

Molecular classification
Synthetic Receptor, Chimeric Receptor
01

Overview

The chimeric antigen receptor itself is not one fixed molecular entity but rather an adaptable platform whose specificity depends entirely on its engineered extracellular binding region. This allows for highly customizable targeting across different diseases based on which cellular marker is selected as the therapeutic focus. CARs are synthetic receptors that redirect T cells to target specific antigens on cancer cells, leading to their destruction. The target molecule varies by product; each CAR is engineered to recognize a particular antigen associated with a disease or malignancy. Common targets include CD19 (for B-cell malignancies) and BCMA (for multiple myeloma).
