Target intelligence / Profile preview
Chitinase domain-containing protein 1 (CHID1) is a highly conserved, ubiquitously expressed protein found on human chromosome 11 (p15.5), containing a chitinase-like domain but lacking confirmed enzymatic activity. It is part of the Glycosyl hydrolase 18 family, with evolutionary conservation across species from primates to insects. The protein binds carbohydrates and possibly lipopolysaccharides (LPS), showing preference for chitotetraose in vitro. Its biological functions remain speculative, with proposed roles in carbohydrate metabolism, immune signaling, and pathogen sensing, likely mediated in part by interaction with stabilin-1. Despite wide tissue expression, there is currently no evidence of CHID1 involvement in known diseases or as a therapeutic target, and no drugs or biomarkers are identified for it
No mechanism of action for drugs is available, as it is not a drug target
