Chitosan is a biopolymer derived from chitin, commonly sourced from the exoskeletons of crustaceans. It is used to create scaffolds for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine due to its biocompatibility, biodegradability, porosity, and mechanical properties. Chitosan scaffolds support cell adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation, and can be used for bone regeneration, soft tissue repair, and drug delivery.
