CHL1 antisense RNA 1 (CHL1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed antisense to the CHL1 gene, located on human chromosome 3. CHL1-AS1 does not code for a protein; rather, it regulates biological functions by modulating CHL1 expression and acting as a molecular sponge for specific microRNAs, notably miR-6076. Its expression pattern is closely mirrored with that of CHL1 in several diseases, including endometriosis and various cancers, where it contributes to pathological cell proliferation and migration. CHL1-AS1 functions as a regulatory RNA involved in the development and progression of tumors and endometrial pathologies and has emerged as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target in these conditions.
Acts through microRNA sponging (e.g., miR-6076), thereby regulating the expression of CHL1 and influencing cell proliferation and migration. siRNA-mediated knockdown inhibits proliferation and migration in experimental models (not a clinical drug but a mechanism used in functional studies).
