Overview

CHL1 antisense RNA 2 (CHL1-AS2) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene located on human chromosome 3, transcribed antisense to the CHL1 coding gene[8]. It has been shown to be upregulated in ectopic (vs. eutopic) endometrial tissue from patients with ovarian endometriosis, suggesting a correlation with the pathogenesis of this disease[5][7][8]. CHL1-AS2, along with its DNA sense counterpart CHL1 and the related lncRNA CHL1-AS1, may participate in the regulation of gene networks involved in endometrial tissue remodeling or proliferation, based on bioinformatic and correlation analyses[5][8]. However, its direct molecular functions remain uncharacterized, and there are no known therapeutic drugs, safety concerns, or direct mechanisms of action described for this lncRNA. CHL1-AS2 is primarily of research interest as a disease-associated lncRNA rather than as a conventional therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter[7][8].
