Chloride channel protein CIC-2, encoded by the CLCN2 gene, is a voltage-gated chloride channel. It plays a crucial role in maintaining chloride ion homeostasis across cell membranes and is involved in various physiological processes including electrical excitability, cell volume regulation, and transepithelial transport. Mutations or dysregulation are associated with neurological disorders like epilepsy and megalencephalic leukoencephalopathy with subcortical cysts.
