Chloride channel protein ClC-Ka (ClC-Ka)

Target
ClC-Ka
Molecular classification
Ion channel, CLC family of voltage-gated chloride channels
01

Overview

Chloride channel protein ClC-Ka (CLCNKA) is a voltage-gated chloride channel primarily expressed in the kidneys and inner ear. In the kidneys, it mediates transepithelial chloride transport, crucial for salt reabsorption, fluid balance, and blood pressure regulation. In the inner ear, it contributes to potassium recycling essential for hearing function. It requires the barttin beta subunit for functional expression. Variants may be associated with salt-sensitive hypertension.
