Overview

Chloride intracellular channel 1 pseudogene 1 (CLIC1P1) is a genomic locus in humans categorized as a pseudogene because it is homologous to the chloride intracellular channel protein 1 (CLIC1) gene but does not encode a functional protein[2][4]. Unlike the parental CLIC1 gene, which codes for a redox-regulated chloride channel involved in ion homeostasis, cell cycle regulation, apoptosis, immune response, and is implicated in cancers and neurodegenerative diseases[1][3][5][7], the CLIC1P1 locus is generally considered non-functional. Like other pseudogenes, it may be transcribed and participate in regulatory functions, such as acting as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) to regulate expression of its parental gene by sponging microRNAs[2][4]. However, there are no current data supporting any confirmed biological, clinical, or pharmacological roles for CLIC1P1. It is not a therapeutically relevant target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or biomarker.

Biological functions

None confirmed for CLIC1P1; pseudogenes may regulate parental gene expression through competitive endogenous RNA mechanisms or miRNA decoys[2][4], but no specific functions are confirmed for CLIC1P1.
03

Disease associations

None confirmed for CLIC1P1; while some pseudogenes regulate disease processes, there is insufficient evidence for CLIC1P1.
