Overview

Chloride intracellular channel 4 pseudogene 1 (CLIC4P1) is a human non-coding gene classified as a processed pseudogene related to the chloride intracellular channel protein CLIC4[4]. Unlike the functional CLIC4 gene—which encodes an ion channel protein involved in cell volume regulation, apoptosis, angiogenesis, and cancer—CLIC4P1 does not encode a functional protein. Pseudogenes like CLIC4P1 may have limited biological activity, such as regulating the parent gene by acting as microRNA decoys or competitive endogenous RNAs, but no direct function or disease association is currently established for CLIC4P1 itself[2][6]. CLIC4P1 should not be confused with CLIC4, which is an active therapeutic target in some disease settings. Note: If you intended to search for the *protein-coding* gene (CLIC4), that is a well-characterized ion channel and disease target[1][3][7]; CLIC4P1, as a pseudogene, is not equivalent and is not considered a therapeutic target.

Biological functions

OtherPseudogenes generally do not have protein-mediated biological functions. However, emerging research suggests they may act as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs), regulating their parental genes by sequestering microRNAsSpecific functions for CLIC4P1 have not been characterized
03

Disease associations

OtherThere is no direct evidence that CLIC4P1 is involved in human diseases. Some pseudogenes can act as regulators in cancer and other disorders through ceRNA mechanisms, but this has not been described for CLIC4P1 specifically
