The chlorogenic acid (CGA) pathway refers to the biosynthetic route by which plants produce chlorogenic acid, a polyphenolic compound that is an ester of caffeic acid and quinic acid. CGA is widely distributed in plants and plays significant roles in plant defense, human health, and industrial applications. It exhibits antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, and antitumor properties. Key enzymes include phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL), cinnamate 4-hydroxylase (C4H), 4-Coumarate-CoA ligase (4CL), and Shikimate O-hydroxycinnamoyltransferase (HCT).
