Overview

CHN2 antisense RNA 1 (CHN2-AS1) is an antisense long non-coding RNA gene that is transcribed from the genomic region opposite to the CHN2 (chimerin 2) gene. Antisense lncRNAs can regulate the expression of their "sense" protein-coding genes by binding to complementary RNA sequences, influencing mRNA transcription, stability, or translation, and sometimes by recruiting chromatin modifiers or affecting epigenetic marks[7][8][5][1]. While antisense lncRNAs as a class are increasingly recognized for their roles in gene expression and some have been implicated as therapeutic targets or biomarkers in cancer and other diseases[8][3], there is currently no evidence in scientific literature that CHN2-AS1 itself is a validated therapeutic target, disease biomarker, or interacts with any known drugs[1].

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression (likely regulates CHN2 gene or associated pathways via antisense mechanisms, based on known roles of antisense lncRNAs; see [7][8])Epigenetic regulation (by analogy with other antisense lncRNAs)[7]Potential roles in cell signaling or gene silencing (common for this class but *not specifically documented* for CHN2-AS1)[8]

Disease associations

Other (no specific associations with cancer, inflammation, or other diseases currently documented for CHN2-AS1 in available sources)[1]
