Cholecystokinin Receptor (CCK Receptor)

Target
CCK Receptor
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor, Receptor
01

Overview

Cholecystokinin receptors (CCK receptors) are a family of G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) that mediate the physiological effects of the peptide hormones cholecystokinin (CCK) and gastrin. There are two main subtypes: CCK A receptor (CCKAR/CCK1R) and CCK B receptor (CCKBR/CCK2R). They play roles in digestion, behavior, and appetite control.

Mechanism of action

Agonists bind to the receptor, activating Gq proteins, leading to phospholipase-C stimulation and increased intracellular calcium. Antagonists block the receptor, preventing activation by endogenous ligands.

Safety considerations

The broad distribution of CCK receptors means that antagonists may have complex effects.Further research is needed to fully elucidate the therapeutic potential and safety profile of CCK receptor modulators.
