Cholesterol absorption refers to the process by which cholesterol from dietary sources and bile is taken up from the intestinal lumen into enterocytes (intestinal epithelial cells), processed, and then transported into circulation. This process is a critical determinant of whole-body cholesterol homeostasis and is a major target for lipid-lowering therapies.
