Cholesterol gallstone formation is a complex process involving cholesterol supersaturation in bile, crystal precipitation, gallbladder dysfunction, and mucin accumulation. It is influenced by hepatic, gallbladder, and intestinal factors, as well as genetic predisposition and various risk factors. The process can lead to several clinical manifestations including biliary colic, cholecystitis, choledocholithiasis and biliary pancreatitis.
