Overview

Cholesterol-rich membranes refer to regions of the cellular membrane with a high concentration of cholesterol, forming microdomains such as lipid rafts. Cholesterol constitutes up to 40% of plasma membrane lipids in eukaryotic cells and is essential for regulating membrane thickness, rigidity, elasticity, permeability, and protein organization[1][2][4][5].
