Target intelligence / Profile preview
Choline kinase alpha (CHKA) is a cytosolic enzyme that catalyzes the phosphorylation of free choline to phosphocholine, the first and rate-limiting step in the CDP-choline pathway for phosphatidylcholine production. It plays an essential role in membrane biogenesis, lipid metabolism, signal transduction, and the regulation of cell growth and proliferation. CHKA is overexpressed in various cancers and is a target for small-molecule inhibitors under investigation as anticancer agents. It is also implicated in neurodevelopmental disorders.
