Target intelligence / Profile preview
Choline transporter-like protein 3 (SLC44A3) is a predicted multi-pass transmembrane protein belonging to the solute carrier family 44, more specifically the choline transporter-like (CTL) family. It is one of five members of the CTL family (SLC44A1–5), characterized as putative transporters with ten transmembrane domains that mediate sodium-independent choline transport across cellular membranes, though SLC44A3 itself is poorly characterized functionally in comparison to other family members. While other choline transporters, such as SLC44A1 and SLC44A2, have established roles in choline and ethanolamine transport for phospholipid biosynthesis and mitochondrial metabolism, the specific physiological and pathological roles of SLC44A3 are not well defined, and its transporter function remains to be confirmed. SLC44A3 is predicted to play a role in transmembrane transport processes that contribute to membrane integrity, but there is currently insufficient experimental evidence to directly link it to therapeutic targeting, disease mechanisms, or interacting drugs.
