Target intelligence / Profile preview

Cholinergic receptor muscarinic M1 (CHRM1)

Target
CHRM1
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor, Receptor
01

Overview

The cholinergic receptor muscarinic M1 (CHRM1) is a G protein-coupled receptor that binds acetylcholine. It is predominantly expressed in the central nervous system, exocrine glands, and gastric tissue. It plays a crucial role in cognitive processes such as learning and memory, neuronal excitability, and glandular secretion. Dysregulation of M1 receptor signaling has been implicated in cognitive disorders and autoimmune conditions. Antagonists can cause side effects such as dry mouth and confusion.
