Target intelligence / Profile preview
Chondrocyte proliferation refers to the multiplication or reproduction of chondrocytes (cartilage cells) by cell division, resulting in an expansion of their population. It is a key process in cartilage development, repair, and growth plate elongation during endochondral ossification. Several signaling pathways regulate chondrocyte proliferation, including Wnt signaling, the Ihh-PTHrP feedback loop, and Notch signaling. Disruption in normal patterns of chondrocyte proliferation contributes to diseases such as osteoarthritis or developmental disorders affecting bone lengthening.
