Target intelligence / Profile preview
Chondroitin 4-sulfate, also known as chondroitin sulfate A, is a sulfated glycosaminoglycan (GAG) and a derivative of chondroitin in which the sulfate group is esterified to carbon 4 of the N-acetylgalactosamine (GalNAc) sugar. It is a linear heteropolysaccharide composed of repeating disaccharide units—glucuronic acid and galactosamine—commonly found covalently linked to proteins as part of proteoglycans in connective tissues such as cartilage. While used as a dietary supplement for osteoarthritis, large clinical trials have not demonstrated significant symptomatic benefit.
