Overview

CSPG4 pseudogene 1 Y-linked (CSPG4P1Y) is a non-coding pseudogene located on the Y chromosome. It is an inactivated, non-functional homolog of the protein-coding CSPG4 gene and is not transcribed into a functional protein. The CSPG4P1Y gene is annotated as a pseudogene within the P1 palindrome region of the Y chromosome, with two copies present, and the CSPG4P1Y record represents the more telomeric copy[3][4]. Due to its nature as a pseudogene, CSPG4P1Y does not exhibit any biological protein function, does not participate in signal transduction or cell biology, and has not been implicated in disease or therapeutic processes. There are no known drugs or disease associations for this pseudogene. The HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee, GeneCards, and NCBI confirm that CSPG4P1Y is specifically a pseudogene, not to be confused with CSPG4, the active protein-coding gene involved in cancer biology[3][4]. Unlike CSPG4, which encodes a cell surface proteoglycan implicated in malignancy, CSPG4P1Y has no known coding or regulatory function, disease role, or therapeutic relevance. Do not confuse CSPG4P1Y (a pseudogene) with CSPG4 (Chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan 4), which is a validated cancer-associated cell surface receptor and an anticancer drug target[1][2][6].
