Chondrosarcoma-associated gene family member 2 (CSAG2) is a protein-coding gene primarily recognized as a cancer/testis antigen, notably expressed in various cancers such as chondrosarcoma. CSAG2 is associated with chemotherapy resistance and is implicated in neoplastic and malignant phenotypes, functioning partially by down-regulating the tumor suppressor p53’s transactivation activity and activating the SIRT1 enzyme. It is identified as a marker for certain cancers and may mediate cellular response to xenobiotic stress, contributing to resistance against drugs like taxol (paclitaxel). The protein’s role in malignancy and drug resistance makes it a candidate therapeutic target, although overcoming chemotherapy resistance remains a therapeutic challenge.
