Overview

Choroidal neovascular tissue is characterized by abnormal, fragile new blood vessel growth originating from the choroid—the vascular layer beneath the retina. This phenomenon disrupts retinal architecture and often leads to leakage of fluid or blood into retinal tissue, threatening photoreceptor cells and causing progressive vision loss. CNV most commonly arises in "wet" age-related macular degeneration but is also associated with myopic degeneration and other retinal diseases. DNAs involved include VEGF signaling (which drives formation and leakage of new vessels), tissue injury/degeneration, and compromised Bruch’s membrane. Management focuses on anti-VEGF drugs, laser therapy, or photodynamic methods aimed at halting vessel growth and reducing leakage. In summary, choroidal neovascular tissue is a pathological tissue process, not a canonical molecular target; therapies address the process or molecular drivers (mainly VEGF). For structured drug discovery or biomarker work, molecular targets such as "vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) receptor" are the actual canonical targets.
