Overview

CHP1 pseudogene 2 (CHP1P2) is a processed pseudogene related to the functional gene encoding Calcineurin-like EF-hand protein 1 (CHP1). While the parent gene CHP1 codes for a calcium-binding protein involved in Na⁺/H⁺ exchanger regulation, vesicular trafficking, and inhibition of calcineurin signaling[1], CHP1P2 is a non-coding sequence presumed to have arisen from retrotransposition or other pseudogenization events. There is no current evidence that CHP1P2 is transcribed or translated into a functional molecule, nor does it appear to play an established therapeutic, enzymatic, receptor, or diagnostic biomarker role[2][3][4]. Pseudogenes such as CHP1P2 are generally considered genetic relics without direct protein-coding capability, although some pseudogenes have documented regulatory RNA functions. No such regulatory activity has been reported for CHP1P2.

Biological functions

Other (Pseudogenes generally lack protein-coding biological functions; some may have regulatory RNA roles, but no published evidence for CHP1P2 specifically)
