Overview

CHP1 pseudogene 3 (CHP1P3) is a processed pseudogene derived from the calcineurin like EF-hand protein 1 (CHP1) gene. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are non-functional, usually due to mutations or lack of regulatory elements required for expression or translation[3][4][5]. Unlike its parental gene CHP1, which codes for a regulatory protein involved in ion transport and pH regulation, CHP1P3 does not code for a functional protein and has no reported physiological or pathological role. Pseudogenes in general can occasionally act at the RNA level, for example by acting as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) or miRNA sponges, but there is currently no curated evidence that CHP1P3 is transcriptionally active or has a biological role. It is not considered a receptor, enzyme, drug target, or biomarker by major genomic and pharmacological databases as of this date[3][5][4].
