Overview

Chromatin assembly factor 1 subunit B (CHAF1B) is a protein encoded by the CHAF1B gene in humans and is a component of the chromatin assembly factor-1 (CAF-1) complex. This complex consists of three subunits (p150/CHAF1A, p60/CHAF1B, p48/RBBP4) and is essential for assembling histone octamers onto newly-replicated DNA, facilitating nucleosome formation following DNA replication and during DNA repair. CHAF1B exhibits cell cycle-dependent phosphorylation, is normally localized to the nucleus except during mitosis, and plays roles in DNA replication, chromatin structure maintenance, and possibly DNA repair. Dysregulation or abnormal expression of CHAF1B and related CAF-1 complex members have been implicated in cancer and other disorders associated with genomic instability[1][2][4].
