Overview

Chromobox 1 pseudogene 5 (CBX1P5) is a sequence on the human genome that resembles the CBX1 gene but does not produce a functional protein product[3][6]. Pseudogenes like CBX1P5 arise from duplication or retrotransposition events and generally lack coding potential due to mutations or absence of regulatory elements. There is no evidence that CBX1P5 has biological activity, is involved in cellular signaling or epigenetic regulation, affects disease, or interacts with drugs. The functional gene of interest is CBX1 (chromobox homolog 1), which encodes heterochromatin protein 1 beta (HP1β), a protein involved in chromatin structure and gene regulation[4][6]. CBX1P5 should not be considered a valid therapeutic target. Key clarification: CBX1 (not CBX1P5) encodes a member of the heterochromatin protein 1 family, which are important for chromatin organization, gene silencing, and have disease relevance (especially in cancer biology)[4]. CBX1P5 does not encode a protein and has no demonstrated role in health or disease. If structured information about CBX1 (the functional gene/protein HP1β) is required, please specify, as CBX1P5 is not a valid molecular target for any therapeutic, diagnostic, or mechanistic studies.
