Chromodomain Y-linked 17 pseudogene (CDY17P) is a human pseudogene located on the Y chromosome. It belongs to a group of chromodomain Y-linked pseudogenes, which are non-functional sequence copies related to the chromodomain Y (CDY) gene family. These pseudogenes are remnants of protein-coding genes that have lost the ability to produce a functional protein due to mutations or deletions. While some pseudogenes are transcribed and participate in regulatory RNA processes, there is currently no evidence that CDY17P is functionally expressed or involved in any biological pathway relevant to drug discovery or therapy[2][4][6][8]. It is not a validated therapeutic target. CDY17P is often included in genomic annotation resources due to its sequence similarity to other CDY gene family members, but unlike functional genes such as CDY1 or CDY2—which are involved in spermatogenesis—CDY17P itself is a non-coding, non-functional sequence[2][4][7]. Pseudogenes in general may occasionally play a regulatory role as competing endogenous RNAs or through other non-coding RNA mechanisms, but there is no specific evidence for regulatory function of CDY17P[6][8]. CDY17P should not be confused with functional chromodomain Y-linked proteins (such as CDY1), which have histone acetyltransferase activity and are implicated in male fertility[7].
