Chromodomain Y-linked 18 pseudogene (CDY18P)

Chromodomain Y-linked 18 pseudogene (CDY18P) is a human pseudogene located on the Y chromosome, classified as part of the chromodomain protein family. While chromodomain-containing proteins are generally involved in chromatin remodeling and regulation of gene expression, CDY18P itself is non-coding and non-functional, lacking protein product or known biological activity. It is listed in genomic databases (such as GeneCards, HGNC, NCBI Gene, and Ensembl) as an unprocessed pseudogene without attributed physiological or pathological functions. The chromodomain protein family, to which the functional CDY1 and CDY1B belong, plays roles in chromatin structure and spermatogenesis; however, CDY18P is a pseudogene and not expressed as a protein. Chromodomain pseudogenes, including CDY18P, are remnants of gene duplication or retrotransposition events and have no direct utility as drug targets, diagnostic biomarkers, or therapeutic candidates. Presence as a pseudogene makes it not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other classical therapeutic target.
