Overview

Chromodomain Y-linked 1B (CDY1B) is a nuclear protein encoded on the Y chromosome and is expressed specifically in the testis, particularly in late spermatids[1][6]. It contains a chromodomain and a histone acetyltransferase catalytic domain, enabling it to bind methylated histones and acetylate histone H4[1][7]. CDY1B is implicated in chromatin remodeling processes crucial for sperm development: it mediates histone hyperacetylation, which facilitates the replacement of histones by protamines as the principal DNA-packaging proteins in sperm. There are two nearly identical copies of this gene on the Y chromosome; CDY1B refers to the more centromeric copy[1][6]. Although CDY1B is biologically important for male fertility, there is no evidence it is currently a direct therapeutic target or receptor for available or experimental drugs[1][2][4][5][7].
