Overview

CDY8P (Chromodomain Y-linked 8 pseudogene) is a non-protein-coding DNA sequence on the human Y chromosome, annotated as a pseudogene homologous to the chromodomain Y-linked gene family[2][4]. Pseudogenes are thought to arise through gene duplication or retrotransposition; they commonly accumulate mutations which disable their protein-coding capacity, rendering them nonfunctional as enzymes, receptors, or other molecular targets[8]. Most pseudogenes, including CDY8P, do not produce functional proteins; therefore, CDY8P is not considered a molecular target for therapeutic development, drug interaction, or as a biomarker. While some pseudogenes can play regulatory roles in gene expression via mechanisms such as competitive binding of regulatory RNAs, no such function has been described or demonstrated for CDY8P specifically[4][6][8].
