Chromodomain Y-linked 9 pseudogene (CDY9P) is a non-protein-coding DNA sequence located on the human Y chromosome, believed to be derived from the chromodomain Y (CDY) gene family. Pseudogenes like CDY9P arise when a formerly functional gene is duplicated or altered such that the new copy accumulates mutations and loses protein-coding potential. Although the parent CDY genes are involved in chromatin remodeling and spermatogenesis, there is no evidence that CDY9P retains any biological function. It is not a therapeutic target, and there are no known drugs or biomarkers associated with it. In general, most pseudogenes are evolutionary remnants without functional roles, although a minority may contribute regulatory RNAs in certain contexts.
