Overview

Chromosome 1 open reading frame 141 (C1orf141) is a human protein encoded by the C1orf141 gene, located on chromosome 1 at 1p31.3[2][3]. It has several splice variants, and its primary isoform is a 400-amino acid precursor protein featuring a domain of unknown function (DUF4545)[1][2]. The mature protein predominantly localizes to the nucleolus and is thought to function as a regulatory factor, potentially involved in ciliogenesis, ciliary function, and RNA binding[2][4][5]. Experimental data support a possible role in cell proliferation, cell cycle progression, and cell migration—particularly in the context of lung adenocarcinoma cells where it promotes proliferation and migration[4]. However, the precise molecular function remains undetermined, and there are currently no confirmed protein partners or validated therapeutic drugs targeting C1orf141[2][4]. It has been associated with certain diseases such as Schneckenbecken dysplasia and psoriasis[7], but is not currently considered a therapeutic target.
