Chromosome 1 open reading frame 174 (C1orf174) is a human gene located at 1p36.32 and encodes the UPF0688 family protein C1orf174[2]. The gene is composed of 6 exons. Its exact molecular function remains unclear. Highest expression is reported in the placenta and appendix[2]. C1orf174 has been identified in several studies as a potential diagnostic and prognostic biomarker in colorectal cancer (CRC) and thyroid papillary carcinoma, with increased expression in tumor tissue associated with poor prognosis[2].
