Overview

Chromosome 11 open reading frame 91 (C11orf91) is a protein of 193 amino acids in humans, encoded by the C11orf91 gene on chromosome 11p13, reverse DNA strand[1][4]. The protein contains a domain of unknown function (DUF5529) and is serine- and proline-rich[1]. Predicted post-translational modifications include multiple phosphorylation sites (notably serine), amidation, and casein kinase 2 and PKC sites[1][2]. The protein is predicted to localize to vesicles in human cells[1]. Structure prediction suggests two alpha helices near the C-terminus and no beta sheets[1]. Evolutionarily, C11orf91 is conserved across jawed vertebrates, indicating the potential for important biological roles[1]. Predicted protein interactions suggest involvement with transmembrane proteins, E3 ubiquitin ligases, and zinc finger proteins, potentially linking it to ER stress, protein ubiquitination, and gene transcription[2]. Its expression is highest in the kidney, and it is found in the cytoplasm of many tissue types; its expression increases upon viral infection, hinting at a role in host response to pathogens[2][5].
