Overview

Chromosome 12 open reading frame 50 (C12orf50) is a human protein-coding gene located at chromosome 12q21.32, encoding a protein of approximately 47 kDa that contains a CCCH-type zinc finger domain near its N-terminus. The protein is predominantly expressed in the testis, with low expression in most other adult tissues. It is predicted to play a role in mRNA and protein binding, and has been implicated in the nuclear export of poly(A)+ mRNA. At the protein level, C12orf50 shows nuclear and cytoplasmic localization, is subject to various predicted post-translational modifications, and interacts (through experimental or predicted evidence) with proteins such as GAPDHS and GOLGA2. Its molecular function remains incompletely characterized, and it is not currently implicated in human disease or targeted by any therapeutic drugs.
