Overview

Chromosome 12 open reading frame 75 (C12orf75), also known as Overexpressed in colon carcinoma 1 protein (OCC-1) and adipogenesis down-regulated 3 (AGD3), encodes a protein of currently unclear function, originally discovered due to its high expression in colorectal cancer. C12orf75 expression is elevated in several human tumors (including bladder and liver carcinoma) and associated with poor prognosis in these cancers, although the functional role may vary and in some cancers it is associated with either promotion or inhibition of tumor progression. Early studies indicated a role in adipocyte differentiation, while later analyses show links to the tumor microenvironment, immune infiltration, and cancer cell proliferation or apoptosis. C12orf75 is not a classical receptor, enzyme, ion channel, transporter, or transcription factor, and its precise molecular function remains to be clarified. There are no approved drugs directly targeting C12orf75, and no established therapeutic mechanisms or safety concerns specific to this gene.
