Overview

Chromosome 14 open reading frame 119 (C14orf119) is a protein of 140 amino acids encoded by the C14orf119 gene in humans[1][4]. Its primary sequence contains a domain of unknown function (DUF4508) found in eukaryotes[1]. The protein is predicted to localize mainly to the nucleus and possibly the mitochondrion and cytosol[1][5]. Post-translational modifications include various phosphorylation, glycosylation, SUMOylation, and ubiquitination sites[1]. It exhibits variable expression across human tissues, with elevated levels in adrenal gland, lymph nodes, and white blood cells and decreased levels in tissues such as the pancreas, brain, and liver. C14orf119 expression is reduced in systemic lupus erythematosus and increased in certain lymphomas, suggesting a potential, but not confirmed, disease association[1]. Recent studies also hint at a possible role in ischemic stroke pathogenesis, but its molecular function remains largely uncharacterized[3]. No known drugs or therapeutic interventions target this protein, and it is not currently classified as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other classical drug target[1][3][5].
