Chromosome 17 open reading frame 89 pseudogene (ENSG00000270598) is an annotated pseudogene on human chromosome 17. Pseudogenes are genomic sequences that resemble functional genes but are rendered nonfunctional through disabling mutations such as frameshifts, premature stop codons, or lack of regulatory elements required for coding gene expression. While pseudogenes as a class can occasionally participate in regulatory networks (for example, by acting as competitive endogenous RNAs or influencing the expression of functional parental genes), most—including this locus—are not currently attributed with regulatory or protein-coding functions. There is no evidence that chromosome 17 open reading frame 89 pseudogene encodes a protein, participates in significant biological pathways, or plays a role in disease.
