Chromosome 2 open reading frame 69 pseudogene 1 (C2orf69P1) is a processed pseudogene, which means it is a DNA sequence resembling a protein-coding gene but rendered nonfunctional by mutations or loss of regulatory elements[1][4]. Processed pseudogenes are typically formed by retrotransposition, when cellular mRNA is reverse transcribed and reinserted into the genome without regulatory sequences[2][4]. Unlike protein-coding genes, pseudogenes such as C2orf69P1 do not produce functional protein products. However, in some cases, pseudogene transcripts or derived small RNAs may impact gene regulation, for example by acting as miRNA decoys or producing siRNAs that regulate expression of related functional genes[3]. There is no evidence that C2orf69P1 has a well-defined biological function, therapeutic relevance, direct disease association, or interacting drugs[1][3][4].
