Chromosome 2 open reading frame 78 (C2orf78)

Chromosome 2 open reading frame 78 (C2orf78) is a protein-coding gene of unknown function in humans, often referred to as "uncharacterized protein C2orf78"[3][4][7][8]. There is currently no evidence to classify it as a therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or major regulatory molecule. Its protein product remains poorly understood, and its molecular function, biological process, and involvement in specific protein complexes are mostly uncharacterized[4][7][8]. Expression data suggest it may be present in human tissues, including the testis[6][9], and some recent studies have investigated potential links with male infertility through genetic deletion, suggesting C2orf78 may have a role in spermatogenic development or testis biology, but no function or disease-association has been confirmed[2]. There are no known interacting drugs, mechanisms of action, established biomarkers, or specific safety concerns related to this protein.
