Overview

Chromosome 20 open reading frame 141 (C20orf141) is a human protein encoded by the C20orf141 gene, located on chromosome 20p13. This protein is predicted to be a single-pass membrane protein comprising 165 amino acids, with a molecular mass of about 17.4 kDa. It belongs to the uncharacterized DUF5562 protein family and is predicted to localize to membrane-bound organelles, particularly the endoplasmic reticulum. C20orf141 features a disordered region, transmembrane domain, and is leucine-rich. Its expression is highest in placenta, testis, and epididymis. Protein-protein interaction data suggest it interacts with proteins involved in neuronal development and diseases (such as APOE and HTT), as well as proteins related to immune and inflammatory responses. Clinically, increased C20orf141 expression is observed in clear cell renal cell carcinoma, and decreased expression is noted in the mucosa of irritable bowel syndrome patients. The biological function of C20orf141 remains largely uncharacterized, and it is not currently considered a therapeutic target[2][4][6].
