Chromosome 3 open reading frame 38 (C3orf38) is a protein in humans encoded by the C3orf38 gene. It is 329 amino acids in length and is uncharacterized, but contains a domain of unknown function (DUF4518), which is part of the protein family pfam15008. The protein may be involved in the regulation of apoptosis and has been proposed as a potential tumor suppressor in some contexts. It shows broad, ubiquitous expression in human tissues and is localized primarily in the cytoplasm and nucleus. Studies suggest C3orf38 may also play a role in metabolic adaptation, particularly related to the response to ketosis. No interacting drugs, biomarker roles, or substantial clinical targeting have been established[1][2][3][4].
